FROM DAYS TO SECONDS: ZOLIC TRANSFORMS FREIGHT MANAGEMENT

A platform developed by ZOLIC reduces processing times, automates processes, and improves the traceability of freight operations.

The recording and processing of large volumes of cargo data can take several days. Today, some of those operations can be completed in a matter of seconds. This change is the result of a new platform developed by ZOLIC to simplify data entry, improve traceability, and provide operational information more quickly.

The tool has achieved over 95% completion (%) and is already being used in the day-to-day operations of the Controls Section. The pilot phase will continue during the second half of 2026, during which the remaining features will be validated and the final adjustments will be made.

The system also addresses a specific need: to support the growth of ZOLIC's operations and those of the Public Special Economic Development Zones (ZDEEP) with a tool capable of handling an increasing amount of information without making the processes more complex.

For General Management, the project is part of a line of work defined by the Board of Directors: to reduce processing times and modernize the services provided to users.

“Digital transformation is part of the vision promoted by the Board of Directors to streamline procedures, modernize service delivery, and offer our users increasingly efficient, transparent, and secure processes. ”This platform prepares us to respond more effectively to the growth of our operations and the development of the ZDEEPs,” says Ricardo Segura, General Manager.

FEWER RECORDS, MORE CONTROL

Previously, certain processes required the same information to be entered at different stages. Now, the platform can retrieve that data and reuse it when necessary. This saves time, reduces the likelihood of errors, and allows staff to focus more on their core monitoring tasks.

The difference becomes even more apparent when processing large volumes of data. Complex operations that previously might have taken several days can now be completed in seconds using automation tools built into the system.

Access to information has also changed. Inventories, goods movements, operational procedures, and other data can be reviewed more easily, providing a better understanding of what is happening in the operation and ensuring timely information for decision-making.

Jonathan Heimen, head of ZOLIC's Controls Section, believes that the change goes beyond simply replacing a technological tool.

“This system changes the way we work. We eliminate repetitive tasks, make use of existing information, and improve the traceability of each transaction. That allows us to work faster, reduce errors, and better respond to the growth of the operations managed by ZOLIC,” he says.

The platform is the result of a joint effort between the Controls Section and the IT department. Its in-house development offers a practical advantage: it can be tailored to the specific characteristics of the operation and incorporate new capabilities as the needs of ZOLIC and ZDEEP evolve.

This change is reflected in very specific actions: fewer duplicate records, faster searches, better tracking of goods, and data available when needed. For an operation closely tied to foreign trade, saving time without losing control makes all the difference.
