The “Santo Tomás de Castilla” Free Industrial and Trade Zone (ZOLIC) has renewed its BASC certification (Business Alliance for Secure Commerce) for the 2025–2026 period, after successfully meeting the strict safety and control standards required by BASC. ZOLIC has been operating under this certification since March 2023, reinforcing its commitment to safe and efficient trade.
This certification is essential for ensuring the integrity of the supply chain in international trade, reducing the risks associated with illicit activities such as smuggling and the illegal trafficking of goods. In addition, BASC provides a framework of trust for domestic and foreign investors, ensuring that operations in ZOLIC are safe and efficient, which fosters trade growth in Guatemala.
Compliance with BASC’s international standards also facilitates trade with demanding markets, enhancing Guatemala’s competitiveness in global trade. For ZOLIC users, BASC certification translates into safer and more efficient logistics processes, contributing to the region’s economic development and attracting new investment.
The certifications under which ZOLIC operates, such as BASC, contribute significantly to the functioning of institutions directly or indirectly linked to the national port system, strengthening inter-institutional relationships and ensuring coordinated operations among key stakeholders such as the Superintendency of Tax Administration (SAT), the General Directorate of Customs, and the Port of Santo Tomás de Castilla.
